Overview

Sohar 1 was originally a gas‑fired cogeneration power and water facility located in northern Oman, supplying electricity and desalinated water under a long‑term PWPA. Under the renewed Power Purchase Agreement signed in October 2024, Sohar 1 now operates exclusively as an Open Cycle Gas Turbine (OCGT) power plant, following the retirement and decommissioning of its thermal desalination facilities. The plant continues to play an important role in supporting regional power supply and system stability.
