The Yanbu 4 plant, located near Ar Rayyis on the western coast, is strategically positioned to benefit the Medinah and Makkah regions. This project stands out as the first renewable energy integrated seawater reverse osmosis (RO) project in the Kingdom. The regions of Medinah and Makkah face significant water shortages, exacerbated by their growing populations and pilgrimage activities. The challenge was to provide a sustainable and reliable source of clean water without exacerbating the local carbon footprint.
