Our client, Stellantis, a leading automotive manufacturing corporation wanted to reduce carbon footprint at their industrial sites and accelerate their transition to net-zero as part of their 2038 goals. As part of their decarbonization efforts, Stellantis wanted to supply its historic Sochaux plant in France with green electricity.
The ENGIE Solution: Solar canopies in factory yard
We leveraged our BOOT model (Build, Own, Operate, Transfer) to deploy one of the largest solar canopy farms in France. The solar plant went operational in October 2022 and is installed on a 22-hectare vehicle dispatching yard adjacent to the Sochaux plant. It features approximately 64,000 canopy-mounted solar modules that also protects ~10,000 vehicles parked below the structure from bad weather. This solar plant with an installed capacity of 29 MWp generates enough electricity to cover one third of the Stellantis plant’s power needs, equivalent to the annual consumption of 13,000 people.
ENGIE will run the maintenance and operation of the plant for 30 years. Additionally, we have optimised the site’s night lighting by re-lamping with LED systems, with the aim of reducing the plant’s environmental footprint.
